Fort Immanuel, also known as Fort Emmanuel, was one of the first European forts built in India by the Portuguese in 1503 at Fort Kochi. It was constructed to strengthen trade relations and protect Portuguese interests along the Malabar Coast.
Named after the Portuguese king Dom Manuel I, the fort played a significant role in the colonial history of Kerala. Although much of the fort was later destroyed by the Dutch, remnants of its walls can still be seen near the seaside in Fort Kochi.
Today, the site stands as a reminder of Kochiβs rich colonial past and is often visited along with other heritage landmarks in the area.
