The Krishnapuram Palace, located near Kayamkulam in the Alappuzha district, is a beautifully preserved palace that showcases the elegance of Kerala’s traditional architecture and royal history. Built in the 18th century by the Travancore ruler Anizham Thirunal Marthanda Varma, the palace stands as a testament to the grandeur of the Travancore kingdom.
Constructed in a traditional Kerala style known as Pathinarukettu (sixteen-block structure), the palace features sloping roofs, narrow corridors, and intricately carved wooden interiors. Surrounded by well-maintained gardens, it offers visitors a peaceful and scenic environment.
One of the major highlights of the palace is the famous mural “Gajendra Moksham”, one of the largest mural paintings in Kerala, depicting a story from Hindu mythology with remarkable artistic detail.
