Kuthira Kolam at Kadammanitta

Kuthira Kolam is a vibrant and dramatic ritual art form performed during the annual festival at Kadammanitta in Pathanamthitta district of Kerala. It is closely associated with the famous Kadammanitta Devi Temple and forms an important part of the traditional Padayani festival celebrations.

The word “Kuthira” means horse, and in this ritual, performers wear large, beautifully decorated horse-shaped structures around their waist. Accompanied by rhythmic drum beats, chanting, and traditional music, the performers move energetically through the temple premises, creating a powerful and festive atmosphere.

Kuthira Kolam is not just a performance but a spiritual offering to the deity. The colorful costumes, expressive movements, and intense devotional spirit make it one of the most captivating folk rituals in Kerala’s temple festival traditions.
