Villoondi Theertham is a sacred and unique freshwater spring located along the seashore near Rameswaram, Tamil Nadu. Despite being situated beside the salty waters of the Bay of Bengal, this natural spring provides clear, sweet drinking water, making it a site of great spiritual and natural significance.

According to Hindu legend, Lord Rama is believed to have created this freshwater spring by shooting an arrow (Villu) into the ground to quench Sita Devi’s thirst during their journey to Lanka. The name “Villoondi” is derived from this event, and the theertham (holy water) is considered sacred by devotees visiting Rameswaram.

Today, Villoondi Theertham attracts pilgrims, spiritual seekers, and tourists who are fascinated by its mythological importance and natural wonder. The calm coastal surroundings, combined with its religious significance, make it a peaceful spot for reflection and devotion during a Rameswaram pilgrimage.
